Originally, the learning journey was supposed to take place in Newfoundland with 40 participants. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic my trip had to be cancelled. In lieu of the large learning journeys that were supposed to take place among the four Ocean Bridge Cohorts they decided to make 30 smaller grouped learning journeys involving people from all four cohorts based on their location. The participants from Manitoba and Northern Ontario were put together to do a 10 day immersive experience on the North Shore of Lake Superior.
In the end we were 6 participants and 2 leaders that joined together for the 10 day trip, offering our services to the locals in order to support the community and educate ourselves on the area. We were able to go to special places and meet important people that influenced and continue to influence the area. We immersed ourselves in the Anishinaabe culture and met elders of the area to learn their culture and issues they have to deal with every day. We learnt about the politics and issues of the area. We got special privileges like staying in the lighthouse keeper's house on Battle Island as we provided our services to help spruce the place up. We fought the wild side of Lake Superior, gained an unforgettable experience and made friendships.
